Located just 40 minutes south of Richmond, my portrait studio serves high school seniors and teens from Richmond, Chesterfield, Midlothian, Colonial Heights, and the greater Central Virginia region. If you’re looking for a high-end portrait experience that blends creativity, confidence, and classic style, this is where it starts.

Q. Do you photograph on location outdoors?
A. At this time, I do not photograph on location or outdoors.
Q. Can I wear my own clothes?
A. Absolutely! In fact I HIGHLY encourage it and together we will map out the best looks to bring to your session.
Q. Can I do my own hair & make up?
A. This depends, we can discuss your products and technique during our design and style process and see if your products are camera ready!
Q. What is included in the session fee?
A. Every senior session includes an online style and design consultation, professional hair and makeup, access to my studio wardrobe for layering pieces and accessories, a fully guided photoshoot with expert posing and direction, and a Zoom Reveal & Ordering Appointment. The session fee is $489. Photographs are purchased separately during your reveal appointment either à la carte starting at $389 per digital file or in collections starting at $2,250.
Q. When should we book?
A. Senior portrait season fills quickly — especially late spring and summer ahead of fall graduations. I recommend booking your consultation as soon as your junior year begins to secure your preferred date. Sessions book on a first come first served basis.
Q. What makes your studio different from other senior portrait photographers?
A. Every session at Melody Smith Portrait is fully guided, art-directed and styled — meaning your senior never has to figure out what to do or how to pose. Professional hair and makeup is included, the studio wardrobe is available for every session, and the result is a curated portrait series that feels editorial and timeless rather than rushed or formulaic. With over 30 years of experience and more than 100 international awards, this is not a typical senior portrait session.
